thankful thursday #7

Here we are, Thursday. It just happens that my little brother is leaving for China on a “thankful thursday”. And so, I dedicate this post to him. Many of you don’t know my brother, Garrett. He is by far my FAVORITE redheaded brother. He is my hope for having a lefty and redheaded child. He is goofy and can make anything super fun!148315_497475083638067_64879225_nSome of my favorite memories of Garrett involve a shopping cart and a grocery list. I always made him come shopping with me because I didn’t want to be all alone and he just simply made it more fun.

He has always had a soft heart and is sensitive to sin. I am a rule follower, but he takes it to a whole different level, in a good way. He is a man (that’s so strange to call him a man because he’s my toothless, freckled, 5 year old brother) of integrity and always looking to do what is right.thankful-thursdayI am so excited to see what the next 10 months in China brings. God brought us John (my adopted Chinese brother) and used that to give Garrett a heart for the Chinese people. He has been taking Chinese language courses at the community college over the last year and was given a recommendation by his professor to teach English at a high school in China. I am so excited for him and this BIG adventure. I can’t wait to hear all of the fun stories and hear all the crazy things he eats.

Hope you have a great time Garrett! You will be missed! So thankful for you on this Thursday!

But more than all of that, the daily grace upon grace that HE freely gives. Today my heart is OVERFLOWING with thankfulness. I know hard days are good and from Him, but I am so very thankful for happy, joyous days.

thankful thursday #5

Hey y’all. Hope you have had a great week. I woke up this morning to 66 degree weather and two cranky kids, so we got all strapped in our Bob Stroller and headed out for a nice, long, cool walk. It was just what I needed. I love walking with my kids. I love looking down and seeing there cute, chubby feet sticking out from under the stroller cover. I love fresh air and this morning, there was a certain crispness to the air. Perfection.jobie and mama snuggles snuggliesThis weather has me anticipating a sweater and riding boots. I have been saying for months that I can’t wait to be cold and all bundled up. What can I say? I am a true Washingtonian, but I do love the sun… just with out all the humidity. So thankful for cooler weather, my fancy Bob Stroller, two kids to share the walk with, and their ever so cute little toes hanging out in the fresh air.ruthie girl rooroo ruthieOn a different note, the last few days we have been making lots of tents and forts. It’s been loads of fun. I love how the little things in life, like a blanket draped over the crib, can bring so much joy and so many smiles. As I always say, I am one blessed mama.IMG_1129 IMG_1126

thankful thursday #4

This week has been a week of fighting for joy. It’s been a long hard fight. But it’s funny, because the week seems to be chalked full of things to be thankful for. Since my little man just turned two, I thought I would spend this post focused on him.sleeping babyWhere to begin with my little Jobie? He is such a delight. He isn’t talking much, but certainly making progress. He loves cars, trucks, balls, anything that has to do with Dada, and loves to make his sissy laugh. He hates the dog jumping on him, going down the dark hall way, and eating.fallHe had his 2 year check up this week as well. I was a little nervous for it because he is on the small side (since he stopped nursing at 8 months) and hates eating. Those two things don’t make for a good program for growth. But the Lord is faithful. He weighed in at 25.9lbs (34%) and 34.5 in (39%). The Lord has been faithful to take the little amount that my boy eats and grow him strong. He may be on the small side, but healthy nonetheless. I know this may seem like a small thing, but I want to give Him praise for keeping my little man healthy. I know that’s a gift and it’s one to be very thankful for.screamingOn a much lighter note, I have been eating up all the Jobie cuddles recently! He has fallen asleep on me in the last month, more than I ever remember. He has been climbing up on my lap more to get in a few hugs and then off to play again. He gives the best “squeezy” hugs and big, wet, juicy kisses. He is so affectionate, like his daddy. He has a good man to emulate. I fear Ruthie takes after me… She wants to be with her people all the time, but no need for snuggles. :)IMG_0555So on this Thursday, I find myself fighting to be thankful, all the while, knowing I am blessed far more then I deserve. We do serve a kind God, who lavishes an abundance of sweet gifts on His people. What a great picture of the gospel.

thankful thursday #3

I am sure I’m going to say this every week, but how is it already Thursday? I thought I would format this week’s post a little differently for a couple of reasons. First, my computer is down so I am using Ian’s computer. Which in turn means I don’t have access to any of my pictures. And second, this week marks our church’s 5 year anniversary so I thought I would pay a little tribute to my local church, Redeemer Community Church.

We had the privilege of attending Redeemer for the first time three years ago on the anniversary Sunday. We had just moved here from WA and didn’t know a soul. We felt very alone being so far away from everyone we knew but we were warmly greeted and overwhelmed by all the invitations to lunch and dinner. The invitations were so abundant we were booking weeks out! We knew that first Sunday that this was the church for us. And just three months later, we became members.

It has been so refreshing to be at Redeemer. It’s just enough like our old stomping grounds but at the same time, the Lord is using it to challenging us in new areas. It’s been a joy to be apart of the Redeemer family. We love the people, fellowship, and worship. We are so very thankful for this body of believers and for its leadership. It’s been so great to see the Gospel lived out by the leaders and the congregation.

So on this muggy, dreary, Thursday I’m feeling very thankful. My husband told me the first month we were here, that by the time it came time for us to leave, I would be sad. I didn’t believe him… but once again, he was so very right.

happy thursday!

PS- We still have at least one more school year here! We aren’t leaving tomorrow. :)

thankful thursday #2

So last week I did my first “Thankful Thursday” post. I think I am going to make this a regular thing. I am not promising EVERY Thursday, but regular, none the less. I want to be a thankful person and this is an easy way to stay in that thankful mindset. I have so much to be thankful for, yet it can be so easy to grow complacent. So here we are, Thursday again, and many things to be thankful. Just a few….

essie madison ave-hueI love Essie nail polish. It really is far superior to any other nail polish I have tried. But at almost $8 a bottle, lets just say it’s a rare treat to go buy one. This particular color was a gift from my husband. He knows how much I love to go and look at all the pretty colors, but most of the time leave empty handed. So for our anniversary he took me to go and pick one out. It took me like 10 minutes to decide because I love most of the colors :) but I ended up getting this “madison ave-hue” color. I love how it appears purple or pink depending on what it’s worn with. It’s the perfect ingredient to make me feel girly and cute on days where diapers and dog poop consume my time.
glow sticksI am so thankful for the glimmer of hope and fun I can have with my kids on hard days. This particular day was especially hard and I was finding myself being short with the kids, so what did we do? Built a fort in Ian and I’s closet, shut the door, got some glow sticks out, and played in there for a good 30 minutes or so. We had a great time. (This was BY FAR the best picture I got in that dark closet, and it’s far from decent.)
jadeite bowl + washi tapeI am really enjoying washi tape these days. It’s an easy way to make something bright and happy. But the only thing better then a pile of washi tape, is a pile of washi tape in my great-grandmother’s jadeite bowl. This is probably my favorite dish I own, and I love dishes, because it’s one of the only things of my great-grandmother’s that I have to remember her by. It is a well loved and well used part of our family history.

You may be wondering why I actually USE such a precious piece and I have two reasons. One, my great-grandmother was a very practical, hard working lady. She worked at a hardware store and didn’t have too many fancy things. I think she would have wanted me to use the dish rather then just have it sitting in storage. And two, because what fun is having an heirloom if you don’t use it? I think of her every time I use it, and I think she would have wanted that.
skypeAnd last, but not least, I am so thankful for Skype! We Skype someone in our family most everyday. I love that our kids get to see their grandparents even though we live thousands of miles away. (Yes, that is my mother on the computer in the background, probably playing the “Is this the same?” game!)

Hope you are able to find a few things you are thankful for, even if they are as silly as nail polish, tape, or glow sticks. These are simple but good gifts that we’ve been given and to delight in them is a good thing. And of course, all of this thankfulness is TO the Creator and Sustainer, Jesus, who gives all good gifts.

happy thursday!

thankful thursday

The other day I was looking through our photos and found a few that brought much thankfulness to my heart! I am so glad I got to marry my best friend and that he still makes me laugh harder then anyone I know. I couldn’t ask for a better leader, friend, husband, and father to my kids. He truly is such a blessing and I am so thankful for him!Lugg461 And then there is my Jobie! He is such a delight and I LOVE being his mama. I love how he quickly makes friends and is eager to shake a hand or give a fist bump. He is such a goof and we love it! I also love his attention to detail. I don’t know too many 1 year olds who will sit and consider the ant. He is such a joy and I can’t wait to see how the Lord is going to use him! IMG_0245 My Ruthie girl! She is so sweet and her smile lights up the whole room. Though she is reserved with others, she is such a delight. And boy does she love her brother. She laughs harder at him then anyone else. I love to watch their affections for each other grow. My Rue-Rue is such a tender hearted little girl and I love that she’s a mama’s girl. I am so thankful to the Lord for this sweet little blessing!
